about

"In the middle of a backseat taxi ride, I'm pullin' on your hair." Really Don't Care describes a raucous night out, one which the narrator plans to repeat the next time the sun comes up. A punkish, surfish, quirky toe-tapper for cruising in the car or skateboarding.

lyrics

i really don't care what's on your mind
i never did mind before
in the middle of a backstreet taxi ride
i'm pulling on your hair

i'm in overdrive and don't you stop the lie
i'd rather wonder if this gypsy's gonna take us anywhere
the lights are red, the blood is rushing to my head
let's roll this mother over cuz i really don't care

when i reached into my pocket for a light
like i done a million times before
she delivered in the backseat and then i
forgot to pay the fare

it's 5am i can't remember where we been
i spent up all my money and i really don't care
i missed the train you stood out in the pouring rain
i'm tryin' to light a cigarette

when the sun comes up your eyes are red
till the sun goes down, do it all again

it's 5am i can't remember where we been
let's roll this mother over cuz i really don't care
the lights are red the blood is rushing to my head
i'm standing on the corner i'm tryin' to light a cigarette

do you ever think about it?
do you ever think about me?
think that you can live without it?
think we better move back to the city?
the sun's going down

about

Merchants of Soul Bristol, Pennsylvania

The Merchants of Soul project comprised Jay Russell, Bob Enck, & Rod West. From 2004–2006, Jay & Rod tracked Break It Up on top of Bob's drum arrangements in the basement of a window factory in NJ.

Jay's untimely passing in 2019 prompted this revival & fresh treatment of the tunes. You can donate to Jay's children by sending checks payable to Karen Russell: P.O Box 1161, Bristol PA 19007.
