about

"I went around you playing hide and seek with you, 'til you found me out." Downtowne relates a sweet story about romance, and the subsequent evolution into mature love.

lyrics

i wanna tell ya all about last weekend
i went around you playin hide and seek with you
till you found me out

there's not a problem we can't solve while drinkin' again
but still i can't help wonder if what you think is true
are we burnin' out my friend

it gets so hard i want you to hear
it gets so lonely with your heart drowning in your beer

lemme tell you bout a child who wasted
i stumble around you feelin out of place with you
but it's okay you make me feel like i won't never die
can we linger at the dance just for a while

and it gets so hard without you here
it gets so lonely with your heart drowning in your beer
they can all seem so insincere
fuck this, i'm outta here

i wanna go downtown, before i get uptight
i wanna go down tonight

should i sleep around
that won't make me feel all right
i wanna go down

but it's okay till i'm dressing up the lower case i
can we linger at the dance till it went out of style
me and Sasha, we've been livin in this bar every night
till i finally stopped complaining and took a stand
for once in my life
it was all right in your i

about

Merchants of Soul Bristol, Pennsylvania

The Merchants of Soul project comprised Jay Russell, Bob Enck, & Rod West. From 2004–2006, Jay & Rod tracked Break It Up on top of Bob's drum arrangements in the basement of a window factory in NJ.

Jay's untimely passing in 2019 prompted this revival & fresh treatment of the tunes. You can donate to Jay's children by sending checks payable to Karen Russell: P.O Box 1161, Bristol PA 19007.
