about

"Don't wanna spend my whole life meaning nuthin' ta no one." This song relates two epiphanies:The realization of one's size in relationship to the universe, and the loneliness of an empty bed. It ends by attributing the cure for such conditions to the lyrics' object.

The slow old school blues swings ends in a crescendo of raw, dirty guitars.

lyrics

at the end of the evening
got no woman, this ain't no place that i wanna be
just sittin' hear, singin' low feelin' sorry
wishin' someone would call and say hey man where you been lately?

don't wanna waste the whole night meanin' nuthin' ta no one
most of the time y'know nothin's the way that i fear

here comes the rain and i'm sure that means something
with the walls closin' in i can hardly begin to explain
how bad it feels wakin' up every morning
to the emptiest bed i said right now some thing's gotta change

don't wanna waste my whole life meanin' nuthin' ta no one
y'know nothin' gets done when you're living face down on the floor
if you stay there too long in your life you know time makes you rotten
so don't hesitate cuz love has to break your heart
love has to break your heart

ya gotta turn it all around

don't wanna waste my whole life meanin' nuthin' ta no one
it's the worst kind of fool who says no one likes being ignored
i thought i would end up a lonely man love had forgotten
because of you i don't feel that way anymore

about

Merchants of Soul Bristol, Pennsylvania

The Merchants of Soul project comprised Jay Russell, Bob Enck, & Rod West. From 2004–2006, Jay & Rod tracked Break It Up on top of Bob's drum arrangements in the basement of a window factory in NJ.

Jay's untimely passing in 2019 prompted this revival & fresh treatment of the tunes. You can donate to Jay's children by sending checks payable to Karen Russell: P.O Box 1161, Bristol PA 19007.
