about

"I was wrong!" Hey Girl is a lamentation on how a relationship ended too soon, a failure to connect. A catchy R&B treatment with a victorious group vocal outro.

lyrics

hey girl, i'm comin' home tonight
cuz i still love your eyes
and the way you saved my life
and it's strange little girl
how i get so close sometime
but never get it right
but i still love your eyes

don't know how i made it home alive

hey girl, wanna hold you close tonight
tell you everything's all right
and i still love your eyes

did they dress you up in ribbons, babe
try to take your bows
screamin' from the car as she rolled by
i was wrong, i was wrong

i've been tryin to deal with never reachin you
and i couldn't remember if i ever did before

screamin' from the car as she rolled by
almost out of sight and all that I could say was
i was wrong, i was wrong
you're stopping on a dime
you're stopping on a dime
oh let's make believe it
i was wrong, i was wrong

about

Merchants of Soul Bristol, Pennsylvania

The Merchants of Soul project comprised Jay Russell, Bob Enck, & Rod West. From 2004–2006, Jay & Rod tracked Break It Up on top of Bob's drum arrangements in the basement of a window factory in NJ.

Jay's untimely passing in 2019 prompted this revival & fresh treatment of the tunes. You can donate to Jay's children by sending checks payable to Karen Russell: P.O Box 1161, Bristol PA 19007.
