about

"You talk so much trash, but baby: It ain't garbage day." This song is a particularly fun, debaucherous take on the blues. Rumor has it this recording session was particularly over-influenced by beer, beer, and more beer, with Jay's dog hanging out as one of the guys.

lyrics

at night i like to listen to the trains roll by
i worry bout the weather on the day you die
i try so hard but i don't hear what you say
you talk so much trash
but baby it ain't garbage day

tried to call ya

tried to call you baby just the other day
but yall youre always running around i'll catch you back okay
it's so unfair, it's so unfair
and it's you calling me, and if that's you calling me
then i ain't home today

was thinking bout you
you wanna tangle with the kid
said you wanna, said you wanna
but you don't wanna tangle with the kid
stop givin the dog beer

you're so far gone daddy tangles in your hair
you're so fessed up baby baby
you're so fucked up
but girl i love you anyway

about

Merchants of Soul Bristol, Pennsylvania

The Merchants of Soul project comprised Jay Russell, Bob Enck, & Rod West. From 2004–2006, Jay & Rod tracked Break It Up on top of Bob's drum arrangements in the basement of a window factory in NJ.

Jay's untimely passing in 2019 prompted this revival & fresh treatment of the tunes. You can donate to Jay's children by sending checks payable to Karen Russell: P.O Box 1161, Bristol PA 19007.
